Local student attends Gulf Island Journey Program

Sarah Sehler, a student at Campbell High School from Smyrna, Ala. traveled to Dauphin Island, Ala. to learn about Gulf Coast plants, animals, and the ecosystem through Dauphin Island Sea Lab’s Gulf Island Journey Program.

Sehler came to the Dauphin Island Sea Lab for the Gulf Island Journey. She spent time in classrooms studying creatures such as plankton, dissecting sharks, and trawling on DISL’s 65-foot boat, the R/V Alabama Discovery.

This Gulf Island Journey camper had the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to witness the birth of two Southern Atlantic Stingrays while seining at Airport Saltmarsh on Dauphin Island. This experience was truly memorable for all of the participants and educators.
