3-year-old saved after falling into Smyrna pool

Toddler was unconscious at the bottom of the pool before a family friend rescued her and administered CPR.

Tragedy was averted Monday afternoon when a family friend administered CPR to a 3-year-old girl who had accidently fallen into a pool located off Harlington Road in Smyrna.

According to Smyrna Police Lt. Robert Harvey, the young girl’s mother and a friend were cleaning around the pool area for an impending storm when they discovered the girl at the bottom of the pool. The friend, Tasha Guadalupe, dove in and pulled the girl from the water.

When and Fire Rescue responded arrived on the scene, they found Guadalupe administering CPR.

Guadalupe told police the child, who had been unconscious, began vomiting water after receiving the first series of compressions and rescue breathing. The child then regained consciousness and began coughing.

According to Harvey, the mother and girl were transported to a nearby hospital where the girl was treated and released. She has made a complete recovery.
