Book sales and free yogurt this weekend
Two local chapters of Friends of the Library are hosting book Friday through Sunday.
There are two great chances to get good deals on books in our Patch and beyond this weekend thanks to book sales sponsored by friends of the library.
Friends of the Smyrna Library are hosting a yogurt social and book sale Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. inside the library as part of the yearlong celebration of the Smyrna Public Library's 75th anniversary.
“The ice cream social is our key event that we do for appreciation for our members of Friends of the Library,” said Jeff Jones, a member of Friends of the Smyrna Library.
Pinkberry at Akers Mill will serve its frozen yogurt and Peter Vogl will provide the tunes. The Friends of the Smyrna Library will also be selling New York Times bestsellers and gift-quality books all priced at $1 or $3. All proceeds from the book sale benefit the Smyrna Public Library.
Jones also added that the Smyrna Public Library is always accepting donations. All donations are tax deductible.
“I don’t think everybody realizes this, but the Smyrna library is the only library that’s run by the city and not the county in the state of Georgia,” he said. “We’re always looking for donations of hardback books, paperbacks, magazines and DVDs.”
But if you can’t wait till Sunday to get your hands on some books, check out the Cobb County Public Library System’s Friends of the Library book sale today and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Central Library in Marietta. Entrance to the sale is free. The sale features comic books, antique books and special collector’s items all starting at $1.
Also at the Smyrna Public Library on Saturday, the Georgia Museum of Art is offering a felt art workshop from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. With “Furry, Fluffy, Felt Fun,” participants will have the opportunity to make their own piece of felt art to take home. This program is for ages 6-14 only and spaces were still available as of 2 p.m. Friday. Call 770-431-2860 to register.
