Campbell holds first Spirit Night this week

A look around at what's happening at local schools this week.

 

Campbell High School will hold Georgia High School Graduation Test retests throughout the week of Sept. 12. The retest of English language arts will be Monday, Sept. 12; math will be Tuesday, Sept. 13; science will be Wednesday, Sept. 14; social studies retest will be Thursday, Sept. 15; and Friday, Sept. 16 will be the make-up day.

CHS Spirit Night at Varners is Thursday, Sept. 15. Spirit Night will be every third Thursday of the month from now on, so add it to your calendar.

Whitefield Academy has released a list of Upper and Middle School students who made the Headmaster’s List with an overall average of 94 or above, and the Principal’s List with an overall average of 90 or above for the second semester of last school year. See the complete list here.

The Lovett School’s International Alliance is giving parents the opportunity to be a resource for the school's 21st century learning and global education endeavors. Have you worked or traveled for a significant time abroad? Do you have a hobby that is international in nature? If so, the school needs you.

The LIA is launching its Parent Resource Directory for the 2011-12 year, gathering information in an easy-to-use format for teachers (who might invite you to share with a class) and administrators (who might ask for your counsel in making contacts or connections). The Smyrna Academy of Excellence will hold another informational meeting tonight at Rev Coffee from 6-7 p.m. Come hear about and ask questions about this new Smyrna charter school that is set to open in July 2013.

Griffin Middle School will have its Fall Dance Thursday, Sept. 15 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. The sixth grade dance will be held in the gym. Seventh and eighth graders will dance in the cafeteria. The cost to attend is $5, but it’s free to PTSA members with a PTSA card.

Fourth grade students at Belmont Hills Elementary will take a field trip to Safety Village Tuesday, Sept. 13.

Brown Elementary School will hold school elections Tuesday, Sept. 13 with a PTA meeting later that evening at 6:30 p.m. Scout Night is the following night, Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 6 p.m.

Support Brown Elementary School at Stevi B’s Pizza Night Thursday, Sept. 15. Some of the evenings proceeds will be donated back to the school, but be sure to tell the cashier.

The Nickajack Elementary School Foundation fundraising campaign continues this week.

Norton Park Elementary School will hold its PTA Open House Thursday, Sept. 15. at 6:30 p.m. in the cafeteria. Thursday also kicks off the start of Spanish Heritage Month.

Russell Elementary School will have its PTA Open House the same night from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the cafeteria.

Friday, Sept. 16 is Teasley Elementary School Spirit Day. Students can wear their Teasley t-shirts or school colors. Later that evening is the fourth and fifth grade dance from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the cafeteria. Cost to attend is $6 in advance and $10 at the door.

The International Academy of Smyrna PTA would like to offer your child a free Science Club Membership. All you have to do is be a PTA member and then enter to win. The Big Thinkers Science Club meets on Wednesdays from 4 – 5 p.m. The free membership starts on Wednesday, Sept. 14 and ends on Nov. 7. It is open to grades K through fifth grade and see here for more information.

Finally, the Cobb County School District will hold its school board meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at 8:30 a.m. at 514 Glover Street, Marietta. Watch the meeting live on CCSD's webstream.
