Car hits covered bridge near Mableton-Smyrna border
The bridge at Concord Road is closed to traffic until further notice.

A woman driving a U-Haul truck hit the historic Concord Covered Bridge on the Mableton-Smyrna border today around 12:20 p.m.
The iron height barrier post fell down in front of the bridge at the intersection of Concord Road and Covered Bridge Road, and no cars can pass over the bridge to the other side at this time. Police arrived on the scene around 12: 40 p.m.
Mableton resident Ron Gause has lived directly behind the bridge that crosses Nickajack Creek for the last six years. He says there are accidents there "all the time."
"This is one of the highest accident areas in Cobb County," Gause said.
The driver refused to give her name to a Patch reporter.
Until further notice, drivers should try an alternate route if they need to travel near the bridge.

Why was a woman driving a U-Haul truck to begin with? Where were the men to help her? That's what men are for... Lifting heavy crap and lawncare maintenance. Or hire a moving service. I'm sure she damaged the U-Haul truck too- but she most likely did not purchase insurance for it. So that will make U-Haul rental rates go up for responsible rental customers. It happens all the time at that bridge. Don't people know how tall their truck is???? If they do not know the answer, they should not be driving a large vehicle. Anyone responsible for damaging a structure because of this sort of thing should be held accountable for repairing the structure. That would cut down on such a problem.

What? Why is a woman driving a U-Haul??? What universe are you from? Something is wrong with your thinking "responsible female." (I cannot capitalize female for you because I would have to spell it differently.)

A woman driving a U-Haul is fine. Trying to go through the covered bridge is not. There are height restriction notices all over the place. I used to take that way to work every day when I had a job, and it is just amazing how many people held up traffic because they tried to make it into and through the bridge.
