Celebrating Southern Springtime with Music

Canoe's Song of the South Music Series is a perfect excuse to eat, drink, and be merry.

There are so many reasons to enjoy spectacularly balmy spring weather in Atlanta. One of our favorite ways to chill out is enjoying al fresco music with friends. Vinings’ own picturesque riverfront dining spot announces their Song of the South Music Series, which kicks off Wednesday at 7 p.m. with musician Tim Brantley.

Motivated by popular demand and Southern springtime, this classic local restaurant launches the eight-week long music series at its outdoor River Bar. Canoe opened 1995.

Canoe’s General Manager Vincent Palermo said, “We feature this series in the spring as well as in the fall, when our weather is at its peak.” Canoe is idyllically situated on a tranquil portion of the Chattahoochee River, surrounded by both elegant natural landscaping and well-manicured gardens. The River Bar is an ideally romantic spot for a cozy date night, complete with wandering pathways perfect for a stroll.

No visit to Canoe would be complete without sampling its outrageously terrific food. Palermo whets the appetite with his detailed description of the “River Snacks” menu. He explained that Canoe features more casual foods that are easy to pick up and fun to share in an outdoor setting.

“This spring we have a duck and beef burger with pickled red cabbage, spinach and fried egg. We also have edamame hummus with chili flatbread and grilled sourdough. And our truffle house-made french fries with shaved parmesan and rosemary are always a crowd-pleaser.”

Servers will quench your thirst with specialty handcrafted cocktails and locally-made Sweetwater beer. Of course, any oenophile within a 100-mile radius knows that Canoe is renowned for its wine list, so wine lovers can rejoice in the myriad choices.

Musician Tim Brantley is a rare treat: a talented pianist who knows how to rock. His signature style is a mesmerizing blend of insightful lyrics, infectious pop, 70s funkiness and contagious melodies. Citing musical influences such as Hall & Oates, Wilco, and Fleetwood Mac, Brantley will jump start the Song of The South Music Series on Wednesday night. Brantley is also scheduled to play on Wednesday, May 25.

There is no cover charge to come eat, drink and be merrily entertained every Wednesday through June 8. Music will fill the air until 10 p.m., and see Canoe’s website for full listing of artists scheduled to play.
