Wednesday the Atlanta Regional Commission held a conference call with Cobb County voters to discuss the Regional Transportation Referendum. You can listen to the call in its entirety here. Smyrna-Vinings Patch compiled some interesting numbers from the wireside chat.

1: Number of questions callers could ask, though some couldn’t resist a follow-up.

2: Elected officials on the call. Cobb County Chairman Tim Lee and Kennesaw Mayor Mark Mathews served on the regional roundtable that compiled the list of approved SPLOST projects. Lee and Mathews had help answering questions from Cobb County Department of Transportation Director Faye DiMassimo and Jane Hayse, Atlanta Regional Commission transportation planning director.

10: Number of counties that will vote on the Regional Transportation Referendum on July 31. They include Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Gwinnett, Henry and Rockdale counties.

15: Percent of SPLOST revenue that will be distributed to local governing bodies like County Commissioners and city governments for local projects.

16: Number of people on the call whose questions concerned public transit.

25: Number of people who asked questions during the wireside chat.

52: Percent of the referendum going toward transit-type projects like light rail, bus rapid transit and capital improvements to MARTA.

55: The wireside chat lasted 55 minutes.

157: Total number of projects on the list approved last year by the Atlanta Regional Roundtable.

1 billion: Amount of projected revenue generated by the TSPLOST for Cobb County projects.

6.14 billion: Amount of revenue generated for the 10-county region over the 10-year period the tax would be collected.

Were there really only 25 people who called in or were there only 25 people who asked a question?

Good point, Michael. There were 25 people who were able to ask a question during the call. If they couldn't get to the caller they were allowed to email their question or leave a voicemail. ARC reported that they had 4,500 people on both the Fulton and Cobb calls Wednesday night.

These chats are definitely very informative. I was able to be on a chat and a question that I had was able to be answered. I have told other friends and colleagues about these chats and if I am unable to provide them with information I urge them to get on the chat. I will be voting yes for the Regional Transportation Referendum and will be strongly encouraging others as well.
