Smyrna Man Struck, Killed in Atlanta Road Collision

Atlanta Road near Paces Ferry Road is partially blocked while police investigate the scene.

 

Update Feb. 24:

Charles H. Collins, a 66-year-old Smyrna man, was struck by a vehicle and killed Thursday, Feb. 23 at approximately 6:55 p.m. near the intersection of Atlanta and Paces Ferry roads, Cobb police said.

According to investigators, Collins was trying to cross Atlanta Road from the west shoulder to the east shoulder when he was struck by a white 2004 Chevrolet Silverado as it traveled southbound. 

The driver of the vehicle was 25-year-old Nicholas W. Bryant of Carrolton, Ga. Bryant was not injured and is not expected to charged.

Collins was taken to Emory Adventist Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Original Story Feb. 23:

Cobb Police have partially closed off Atlanta Road near the intersection of Paces Ferry Road while they investigate a fatal pedestrian accident. Michael Bowman, Cobb police’s public information officer, could not offer any more details at this posting.

Several patrol cars were at the scene where Smyrna-Vinings Patch observed a white pickup truck with damage to its front bumper around 8:45 p.m. Thursday.

Why call the police? Especially if Smyrna's force is coming? You'd be better off yelling "help!" into a banana.
