Speaking of new business in the Jonquil City, Dos Amigos Cantina is just a few weeks away from opening according to Patrick Albrecht, owner of Great Food Group Inc. Reached by phone Tuesday, Albrecht said the upscale Mexican restaurant, located in the former Folks restaurant buidling at 2590 Spring Road, was originally slated for a Dec. 1 opening.
“We’re not too far away,’’ Albrecht said. “ We’ll have some inspections next week, but we'll be opening soon.’’
The new restaurant is expected to create 40-50 new jobs in the Jonquil City and hiring for all positions is currently ongoing. See here for more details. This will be fourth restaurant for Great Food Group, which also operates Social Vinings and The Vinings Fish Company.
Not known is when Grant’s Bar & Grill will initially open its doors. Messages left for management have not been return for what has been described as an upscale sports bar. It’s located at 2997 Cumberland Boulevard, just east of Cumberland Mall in the former Roasters restaurant locale.
In late June, owner Charles Grant, the former Georgia Bulldog and New Orleans Saint defensive end, told Patch that he was targeting a late July-early August opening, hinting that some familiar football faces would be seen frequenting the establishment.
A peek through the window Tuesday displayed an restaurant that looks aesthetically close to being ready for business. However, one speculated reason for its delay could be due to Grant’s Nov. 28 felony arrest for writing fraudulent checks in Colquitt, Ga.
Grant, who has made recent appearances on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta,” has been no stranger to run-ins with the law.
Last year, he pleaded no contest to affray, which means public fighting, for an incident that took place outside a Blakely, Ga., night club in Feb., 2008.
In the melee, a pregnant 23-year-old innocent bystander was shot and killed. Grant, who was one of seven men charged in the incident and did not have the gun that killed the woman, was fined $1,000 and ordered to pay $20,000 restitution.
