Hola Smyrna, es muy bien en Dos Amigos Cantina

Smyrna's newest restaurant opens its doors to the public Thursday night.

Pablo and Patricio have made their way to the Jonquil City. Chef Paul Albrecht and his son Patrick that is as Dos Amigos Cantina on Spring Road is officially open for business as of Thursday night.

Owned and operated by the Great Food Group Inc., which also runs the Vinings Fish Company and Social Vinings, the new upscale Mexican restaurant has seating capacity for 150 people inside. The tale of Dos Amigos goes like this: “As Pablo and Patricio made their way to Smyrna on their trusty donkeys, they wanted to share something special with the inhabitants when they got there.’’

“We’re excited," Patrick Albrecht said this week as workers were busy putting the final cosmetic touches on the eatery. “We’ll have different kinds of Mexican fare like burritos, tacos and fajitas. But we’ll also have some dishes that people know us for where more cooking is involved.’’

The menu features soups, salads and an assortment of starters such as House Pickled Jalapeño Poppers, Hand-Rolled Chicken Flautas and Smoked Chicken Empanada. Most starters are priced around $7.

Most burritos, featuring the likes of Slow Braised Brisket and Shrimp Fajita Burrito, are priced around $9. The tacos are mostly around three and four dollars and feature Fried Maine Lobster, Grilled Portobello Mushroom and Tequila Lime Shrimp.

House specialities are priced between $9-$15 and include the likes of Braised Ancho Chili Brisket, Panella Cheese Chili Rellenos, Beef Brisket Chili Rellenos, Slow Roasted Pork Carnitas, Tortilla Crusted Tilapia, Carne Asada Traditional Tacos, Braised Ancho Chili Brisket, Slow Braised Brisket Enchiladas, and Barbacoa Pork Tamales.

And don’t forget about the 40 tequilas in the bar and house-made margaritas come as large as 42 ounces.

Albrecht said the restaurant has hired “about 40 local awesome people’’ and construction will begin in a few weeks for an outdoor patio just in time for spring.

“This is our first restaurant that we’re making that doesn’t have a freezer in it (except a small one for ice cream), so all our food is prepared fresh daily,’’ he said.

Live music will also be featured Thursday – Saturday nights with the first act set to perform this Saturday. Dos Amigos Cantina is located at 2590 Spring Road in the former Folks space.

It will be open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday and from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. For more info, call 404-231-4113.

Will give it a try soon, always down for some good Mexican! They should definitely try to lure first timers in with a Scoutmob deal or one of the other coupon sites. (Half Off Depot, Groupon, Living Social, etc.)

It is a good thing they are not next door to Zucca's pizza and the Tavern or they would not have a chance at success. The slime bags that the city of Smyrna allows into our neighborhoods until 4am and covers up the drugs and passed out people and crime with police cars "positioned" to LOOK like there is a "presence" of accountability and law inforcement is a joke and if the majority of people who live within walking distance of the Market Village knew about the drama and politics they would be up in arms and calling for change.
