Informational Meeting Planned to Discuss Concord Road Project

Several Smyrna City Council Representatives have organized an informational meeting to discuss the Concord Road Median and Streetscape Project. The meeting comes after about a dozen Forest Hills residents told Council at a recent meeting that they think the medians will cut off their neighborhood and impact public safety response times.
The meeting will be held Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. at Brawner Hall. Ward 6 Council Representative Wade Lnenicka explained the necessity of the meeting in an email to some of his constituents.
“Several of you also spoke during citizen input at the end of last week's City Council meeting,” he said. “Thank you for attending and speaking about your questions and concerns. I heard you loud and clear, and I think so did other Council members.
“Accordingly, I believe that the city needs to hold another informational meeting about the road project. There were several such meetings held as far back as 2004 and since then, but maybe not everyone was able to attend them. Also, some residents may have moved into the area since that time and were unaware of the project scope. Either way, I agree it is time to update the citizens about the project.”
Last week, Ward 4 Council Representative Charles “Corkey” Welch told Smyrna-Vinings Patch that citizens will be able to review the project on a “sheet-by-sheet basis” at the meeting.
The Concord Road Median and Streetscape Project is funded by the 2005 and 2011 SPLOSTs.

Though #'s 3 & 4 were out of sequence and the pics loaded a bit slow (at least on my machine) the four illustrations of the proposed widening/'medianing' of Concord Rd. were appreciated. Thanks for the effort. As I understand it, the money allocated for this project HAS to be spent on this project and not for anything else. If the "anti" median folk were successful and the project was abandoned, what, indeed, would happen to the do-re-mi involved? Would it be lost in the "void" we all know and love as government, never to see the light of day again?

No one is opposed to the median. We are opposed to not having access to Lee street. From concord. Not being able to turn left onto concord from lee is no big deal. Not being able to turn left onto Lee. FROM concord is the issue.

userbronco, IF the project is completed as currently designed you would be able to do a u-turn at King St. and come back and turn right onto Dunn and Lee Streets. The intersection is being designed for u-turns.

Actually I am a life long resident and I like the idea of a median but.... To cut off access to lee st from westbound traffic is senseless! Please tell me we/ you have more common sense to not make this mistake! Who approves of doing this really? The idea is aesthetic and accessibility if one is compromised than its a no go, be smart Smyrna!
