Infosys to Add 200 Jobs in Smyrna-Vinings
The information technology consulting firm already employs 350 people in the East Cobb area.
An Indian firm that specializes in information technology consulting is expanding its work force in Cobb County, adding jobs to the Cumberland Mall area.
At the Cobb Chamber of Commerce's First Monday breakfast, Infosys BPO Ltd. formally announced it would be adding 200 jobs to its current operations located in East Cobb.
Infosys, based in Bangalore, India, employs between 60-100 people at the Wildwood corporate complex. According to The Marietta Daily Journal, Infosys also employs 250 more people on Powers Ferry Road after purchasing McCamish Systems in 2009.
The new jobs will "support the Infosys Business Process Outsourcing subsidiary" and will be added in the Cumberland Mall area, according to a report on GPB.com.
WSB-TV quoted Infosys vice president Sandeep Dadlani as saying that future expansion is possible beyond those new jobs, and that metro Atlanta is an important hub in the company's growth plans: "We're committed to increasing our presence here."
Global Atlanta reported that Infosys will be working with Atlanta-universities and technical colleges to recruit and train talent for the new jobs.
Infosys has 19 other offices in the United States and nearly 70 other locations around the world.
Here's the official release from Infosys, which quotes Cobb Chamber economic development vice president Brooks Mathis:
"Cobb County is excited to see one of its global companies expanding. Infosys is an important asset and corporate partner in our community for many reasons."

Infosys is a large, publicly held IT services company. It's being investigated after allegations were made that it committed visa fraud because it used B-1 (visitor) visas for work requiring H-1B (work) visas. Also, it'll be located in the Cumberland Mall area not Smyrna-Vinings.

Last time I checked the Cumberland Mall area was considered Smyrna/Vinings. At least it is everytime you want to focus on something negative. Also, where do you think that these 200 new employees will live? Probably in Smyrna/Vinings.

thomas - long on misinformation, short on fact.
Cumberland Mall is Atlanta, GA 30339. Don't see Smyrna-Vinings in that address.
I've never heard of anyone who considers CM in S-V.
You know what your teacher used to say when you assume.

MA I would love for you to show me an envelope that is post marked with a Vinings address. So by the logic of the your argument, and i hesitate to use the word when referring to anything written by The Haters, the city of Atlanta now has property within Cobb County.

The Vinings zipcode is 30339. Although it has an Atlanta address, it is in Cobb county. I do not understand how the Cumberland Mall area is NOT Smyrna-Vinings.

Vinings is an area within Smyrna. Just like Oakdale and some others. They will either have a Smyrna address or an Atlanta address. I think most of the homes have a Smyrna address. Just the businesses have an Atlanta address, but still get their mail through the Smyrna post office. The 30339 area code was created many years ago by the postmaster of the Smyrna post office at the time, Zeland Wills, because companies wanted to be located in Cobb County, but nobody wanted to use "Smyrna" as the city they were located in because nobody could spell it or pronounce it. So you can say you live in Vinings, but more than likely you have a Smyrna address. Regardless, the business the article is about is located in Cobb County.

Zeland Wills was Smyrna Postmaster from Jul '33 - Jan '34 and again Jul '44 - Apr '66. Clarence Robinson served Mar '90 - Dec '00.
In the early '90s the Cumberland Mall area wanted the cachet of an Atlanta address. So a deal was made and that area became Altlanta 30339. It's in Cobb Co. but with an Atlanta address. Vinings is also Atlanta 30339.
In the 1980s Smyrna wanted to annex the Cumberland Mall area but it refused annexation. Vinings is an unincorporated town in Cobb Co. and under its jurisdiction. There was talk of becoming a city but residents were divided over the issue. Then there was the option of becoming a township. As of Feb '09 that bill hasn't been re-introduced.
I don't know how the name Smyrna/Vinings came about. I guess because of the proximity of the two places.
