It's Homecoming Week at Campbell

A look around at what's happening at local schools this week.

 

It’s Homecoming Week at Campbell High School. This year’s theme is “Old Hollywood.” Tickets to the homecoming dance went on sale today.

There will be homecoming festivities at the school all week and the homecoming parade on Friday will roll through downtown Smyrna. Floats line up at 5 p.m. at First Baptist Church with the parade beginning at 5:30 p.m.

The homecoming football game against North Cobb High School follows the parade at 7:30 p.m. The homecoming dance takes place Saturday, Oct. 1 in the cafeteria. Tickets are $7 in advance and $10 at the door.

The Lovett School’s students need to have their smiles ready Tuesday, Sept. 27. Lower school students (second through fifth grade) will take yearbook pictures in the atrium. Upper school students and faculty will take their yearbook photos in the Poole Foyer. Tuesday is also a make-up day for senior portraits in the middle school multipurpose room. Kindergarten and first grade students will take their yearbook pictures the following day in the atrium.

Friday, Sept. 30 is a lower school in-service day. There will be no class for lower school students.

On Saturday, Oct. 1 at Whitefield Academy, SAT testing will take place in the upper school classrooms from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m.

On Thursday, Sept. 29, the Cobb County School Board will vote to renew International Academy of Smyrna’s charter.

Teasley Elementary School's Spirit Day PTA fundraiser is Friday, Sept. 30. Students pay $1 to wear a crazy hat to school. The Teasley Elementary Fall Fair and Tiger Trot is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 2 at 1:30 p.m. at Campbell Middle School. The fair features games and bounce houses. Wristbands for the fair are $12. Food is available for purchase at the event.

The Tiger Trot fun run begins at 2 p.m. Participation in the fun run is $10 and students receive a t-shirt designed by Laura Pronti, Teasley's art teacher.

Tuesday, Sept. 17 marks the start of Griffin Middle School’s music fundraiser. Friday, Sept. 30 is school picture day. The PTSA Chick-Fil-A Tailgate Party is Friday from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. at the South Cobb Drive Chick-Fil-A. Griffin Middle School eighth graders can hang out before they head over to Campbell High School for the homecoming game against North Cobb High School.

Belmont Hills kindergartners take a field trip to the North Georgia State Fair, Wednesday, Sept. 28. There is also a BEST Club parent meeting Monday at 2:45 p.m. in the media center.

The week of Sept. 26 is Dad’s Involvement Week at King Springs Elementary School. Tuesday, Sept. 27 is room parent meet and greet at 7:50 a.m. As part of Dad’s Involvement Week, enjoy Doughnuts with Dad Thursday, Sept. 29 at 7:20 a.m. for last names A through L. Doughnuts with Dad for last names M through Z will be the following day.

The Nickajack Elementary School Foundation fundraiser continues this week. Thursday, Sept. 27 is Chick-Fil-A Night from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Nickajack Elementary School.

Tuesday, Sept. 27 is Norton Park Elementary School PTA Spirit Night at Stevi B’s Pizza from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the school.

Saturday, Oct. 1 is Fall Beautification Day at Russell Elementary School from 9 a.m. to noon.

The Smyrna Academy of Excellence will hold its next information session on Sunday Oct. 2 from 6-7 p.m. at Taylor Brawner-Park.
