It's My Park Day in Smyrna

Citizens are invited to clean, prune and paint in their neighborhood parks, and later gather for an evening screening of “Gnomeo and Juliet” in Taylor-Brawner Park.

Fans of Smyrna parks should mark Saturday, Oct. 15 on their calendars for It’s My Park Day, a fall cleanup event.

Citizens are invited to clean, prune and paint in their neighborhood parks from 9 a.m. to noon. Bring gloves and garden tools. Participating parks are Lake Court Park, North Cooper Lake Park, Tolleson Park, River Line Park, Cobb Park and Kidscape Village.

The parks and recreation department wants to reward its hard-working volunteers with a showing of “Gnomeo and Juliet” in Taylor-Brawner Park later that evening. Bring a blanket or lawn chairs for the movie that begins at dark.

Paula Weeks, Smyrna parks and recreation commission member, invited Smyrna citizens to get more involved with their local parks even after It’s My Park Day ends.

“We want to keep the momentum going,” she said. “We’re trying to drum up interest for our citizens to maybe become partners of our parks.”

Thank you Sydney, for a great, informative story. I hope this helps motivate more Smyrna residents to action. So many times people get so caught up in complaining that they don't realize they could do something to help improve the situation. The more you give to your community, the more you get back, and the better you feel about yourself and your community.
