Our favorite local java joint is at it again this weekend with back-to-back festivities for do-gooders. Opening its doors to the community, Rev Coffee is graciously hosting these two benefits.

First on Friday, Songs For a Cause is the brainchild of Natalie Saxon, an interior designer with a big heart. Her goal is to design and repurpose a battered women’s shelter in south Atlanta. Donating her time and talents to “The Repurposing Haven Project,” Saxon is in need of additional funding to complete renovation of the 17 bedrooms and five bathrooms of the two houses in the shelter.

The evening will feature live music by Saxon and friends, plus a silent auction to benefit Women of Gilgal, a Christian organization helping women to transform their lives by breaking cycles of abuse and addiction.

This project helps give the Gilgal facilities a lift to offer the residents warm, bright, and cozy living spaces during their recovery. Songs For A Cause begins at 7 p.m. and lasts until 10 p.m. There is no cover charge but donations are lovingly appreciated and encouraged to continue the shelter project.

Silent auction items will consist of artful, repurposed designs and furnishing by Saxon. See her website to preview some items and to see “before” photos of bedrooms at the shelter.

We’ve all heard the name Habitat for Humanity and may or may not be aware that this international nonprofit organization is dedicated to providing shelters to families in need. The organization relies on community support and volunteers to do its valuable and important work.

It’s commendable indeed that the teenagers of Campbell High School’s Habitat for Humanity Club have organized a Saturday night benefit concert of songs performed by supporters of the Campbell High Habitat For Humanity Club. Outward reaching and forward thinking, these students unselfishly give time and effort to club events such as this to fund-raise money for building homes in Cobb County.

There is no cover charge to attend this 7-9 p.m. event, but donations are heartily appreciated as you enjoy a warm beverage and “performances ranging from singing to raps by talented students and local musicians.”
