Meehan’s Goes to the Dogs
Meehan's Public House plays host to Georgia Homeless Pets Irish Barkfest Saturday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Meehan’s is going to the dogs for Georgia Homeless Pets Saturday. The Vinings pub is hosting the nonprofit’s Irish Barkfest from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. March 3. Supporters of Georgia Homeless Pets can meet two of the shelter’s adoptable pets and win prizes all while enjoying Meehan’s grub and grog.
All the proceeds from Saturday’s event benefit animals like Arthur, a six-year-old bluetick coonhound. He was found wandering the streets and it was later learned that his owner was hospitalized and could no longer take care of him. After he was rescued, volunteers discovered Arthur had some serious health problems.
“We are in desperate needs for funds for paying for our animals care,” said Leigh Ellen, a Georgia Homeless Pets volunteer. “Arthur alone had a vet bill of over a $1,000 to figure out why he was having seizures. That takes a long time to get donations for.”
The party features a silent auction for a Paces Animal Clinic Vet Care Package and a raffle for items like a Gibson Les Paul Junior Gutiar valued at $1,100. Other raffle items include gift certificates for Six Feet Under, valued at $100; Salon Lotus, valued at $115; Meehan’s, valued at $50; The Punchline, valued at $50; a Mary Kay microdermabrasion kit, WWE Raw tickets, two sets of Atlanta Hawks tickets and Atlanta Braves tickets plus a parking pass.
Entrants don’t need to be present to win a prize if they write their contact information on the back of their tickets. Georgia Homeless Pets will also be accepting PayPal donations at the event Saturday. Raffle tickets for the Gibson Les Paul Junior can be purchased online.
