New Smyrna Elementary School Moving Right Along
Construction continues on the new Smyrna elementary school.
Smyrna-Vinings Patch asked the Cobb County School District for a progress report for the new Smyrna elementary school. Here's what SPLOST Executive Director Glen Brown had to say:
"The new Smyrna elementary school is currently on schedule and it is projected to complete in March, 2013. The first floor of the Northwest and Northeast Wings is approximately 60% complete and the second floor is ready for Interior CMU Partitions and door frames to begin.
The Structural Steel for the Entire Building is approximately 55% complete with the Tall Single Story Common Space set to begin towards the end of this month. Site Retaining Wall Construction is near 60% complete and underground utility work is near 60% complete."
The school is being built to LEED standards on a corner of the vacant Belmont Hills property behind Campbell High School.
The new Smyrna elementary school doesn't have a name yet. What would you like to name the school?

Very exciting. My daughter asks to drive by there when we are traveling in that area. Even though she is sad to leave her current school, she is excited about going to a brand new school. She even has requested to be on the second floor. :)
I think the name should be Smyrna Elementary, Jonquil Elementary or Campbell Elementary (why not have all three).

The school should be named after Charles "Pete" Wood. He has been an active resident of Smyrna and Cobb County for many years. His wife Lillie has also been active. And his father Roy was very involved in Smyrna.
