Three local schools recently partnered with Sip Wine Riverside to sponsor an “adult night” out for school parents and staff members.

Proceeds from the fun and relaxing child-free event were divided between Griffin Middle, King Springs Elementary, and Nickajack Elementary schools in order to support Rachel’s Challenge and other PTA projects. Rachel Scott was the first person killed in the 1999 Columbine High School tragedy in Colorado.

SIP General Manager Cliff Sinon was instrumental in the success of the event, which featured a wine tasting and delicious tapas buffet.

Tonight, Nickajack and Griffin have joined forces to bring a Rachel's Challenge presentation event set to begin at 7 p.m. the Griffin Auditorium.

This is a life-changing program, designed for those 13 and older, that focuses on kindness and compassion toward others. In November, the Celebration of Kindness event was staged at the Georgia Dome and many area schools, including Griffin and Nickajack, participated. Recently, Teasley's Robot Warriors and Campbell Middle School's Robo Spartans Jr. each excelled at the FIRST Lego League (FLL) Super-Regionals competition. The Warriors received first place for “Innovative Solution" for a packaging design to detect cartons of spoiled milk, and will be entering FIRST's Global Innovative Award Challenge. The Spartans Jr. were selected from the field of 40 participating teams to be among those advancing to the FLL State tournament.

The state finals will be held at Georgia Tech on Saturday, where teams will compete for the chance to represent Georgia at the World Festival later this spring. For additional information on FIRST, please see here.

Congressman David Scott (D-GA) will host a special ceremony on Saturday, February 4 to honor 23 student nominees for appointment to the nation’s esteemed military academies. Among those recognized will be Aaron Churchill and Michael Richard, Jr., both from Campbell who will be attending the U.S. Naval Academy.

The ceremony in Jonesboro will feature guest speakers from the U.S. Air Force and Naval Academies.

Argyle Elementary invites the Smyrna community to join faculty, staff, and students as they celebrate 50 years of inspiring hearts and minds on Saturday, March 24 from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. The Argyle family looks forward to sharing in this special occasion with former faculty members, former students, and community members.
