Pedestrian Struck, Dies After Crash
A 55-year-old Smyrna man was struck Sunday night on South Cobb Drive. No charges are expected to be filed, according to Cobb police.
A pedestrian was hit on South Cobb Drive and later pronounced dead Sunday night, according to the Cobb County Police Department.
Authorities say Jose Luis Zamarripa-Perez of Smyrna, 55, was attempting to cross South Cobb Drive near the intersection of Waldrep Circle at about 7:45 p.m. when he was struck by a black 1990 Jeep Cherokee.
Preliminary investigation suggests that Zamarripa-Perez was walking westbound and not at a pedestrian crosswalk, and the driver, 63-year-old Nafisa V. Sheriff of Marietta, was traveling southbound on South Cobb Drive.
Zamarripa-Perez was transported by ambulance to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital, but was pronounced dead upon arrival.
The collision is still being investigated, but Cobb police say no charges are expected to be filed against the driver.

I was on S. Cobb Dr. when that happened. I wondered why there were at least 3 patrol cars barrelling down S. Cobb with lights flashing and sirens blaring. This happens again and again on that road. People crosss everywhere but at cross walks. And at night they can be almost impossible to see. It's not the fault of the drivers it's the fault of the pedestrians.

That's true...., it IS the fault of the pedestrians; I've never understood why a great many 'walkers' tend to go out of their way to avoid crosswalks. I've see them, at intersections, go back three or four cars that're already stopped at the light to cross. Whatever their reasoning, it's stupid.

Cobb County would do well to institute a "cross walk & bicycle safety course" in our local schools. The children could then help teach their immigrant parents.

Its not just the immigrants. The man hit on Atlanta Rd earlier this year was from here. I think they should start ticketing jaywalkers and work on enforcement. South Cobb and Cobb Parkway are both ridiculous with people running across the road willy-nilly.

They definitely need to work on enforcement of ALL laws associated with crosswalks, and perhaps put in a few on those long, open stretches between lights. At least enforcing the laws for jaywalking and crosswalks might encourage safer practices.

I am from here and I got hit on my bicycle yesterday afternoon at the Atlanta Road/Pat Mell intersection, I did not die but my life is ruined because and oldergentleman did not have the courtesy to follow the rules of the road, he simply got a ticket for failing to yeild to a bicycle in the crosswalk. I got a broken bicycle and a trip to the hospital, I am now on crutches for who knows how long I have two dogs that have to suffer now because I cannot walk them, I cannot get to school how I was becuase I have no bike, and my foot is broken. I do not have a car, it is not like I was joyriding,it is my mode of transportation, bright clothes, helmet and all.. Im just saying we need to do something about the drivers before more people die.. oh yeah and this old man didnt even say he was sorry..
