Our fair city may be turning 140 this year, but she still knows how to throw a party. The Smyrna Birthday Celebration is Saturday, Aug. 4 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Smyrna-Vinings Patch has all the information you need to know about the bash.
There will be some new talent performing at Smyrna’s birthday this year. Smokey’s Farmland Band kicks off the festivities at 6 p.m. with bluegrass tunes and mountain music twang. Though based in Atlanta, the band is named after a farm in LaFayette, Ga. that is known as a popular music venue.
Banks and Shane is back again this year to sing Smyrna happy birthday. They take the stage at 7:45 p.m. The Banks and Shane website promises to transport listeners back to spring break 1979.
Of course it wouldn’t be a birthday without cake, and it wouldn’t be a birthday in Smyrna without a McEntyre’s Bakery cake. Last year the giant cake went fast, so be close by when Smokey’s Farmland Band wraps up their performance.
The grand finale fireworks show begins at dark. Make sure you have staked out a good viewing spot on the Village Green, but please remember to recycle your bottles and casn in the bins placed around the green.
