Ryan Byers, owner of Step It Up Fitness, estimated that the trailer was loaded with about $5,000 in equipment.
Editor's Note: In the original post it was reported that the theft was reported to the Smyrna Police Department when actually it was reported to the Cobb County Police Department.
A Smyrna business owner needs help recovering a stolen trailer loaded with thousands of dollars of equipment.
Ryan Byers, owner of Step It Up Fitness, said he was towing a trailer loaded with equipment behind his RV after his daughter’s softball game around midnight on Saturday, June 30.
When Byers crossed the intersection of Concord Road and Hicks Road, he said the trailer became unhitched from the RV. Byers said he and his daughter noticed the trailer was gone about five minutes later and turned back to retrieve it. As they pulled to the intersection they saw a silver and white Toyota FJ Cruiser driving away with their trailer.
“We couldn’t get them to stop,” he said. “So the bottom line is somebody is either going to turn it in eventually or they stole it. It’s been a week and a half now.”
Byers said the trailer was loaded with two sideline fans valued between $1,500 and $2,000 as well as his daughters softball equipment. He estimated the total value at about $5,000.
Byers reported the incident to Cobb County Police, but friends of Byers with the Smyrna Police Department said the nature of the alleged theft indicates that the driver of the FJ Cruiser lives between three and five miles away.
Byers said the trailer is 5-by-10-foot and made of wood. The tag number is 4788CR. Anyone with information about the trailer or the FJ Cruiser may call the Smyrna Police Department at 770-434-6666.
