Smyrna Hires New Police Chief, Library Director

The City of Smyrna approved Tuesday the hiring of David Lee as its new police chief.

The Smyrna City Council voted 7-0 at Tuesday's meeting to hire David Lee as the city's new police chief and Mary Moore as the new library director.

Lee, Marietta's Deputy Chief of Police, was the sole finalist for the job, after the retirement of Stan Hook, Smyrna's police chief for the past 22 years.

Lee is scheduled to begin the new role on Feb. 4, and was hired at $100,000 a year.

He has served with the Marietta Police Department for 31 years—started as a patrol officer in 1981, and worked with the Atlanta Police Department, U.S. Army Military Police in his early career. Lee also participated in the Cobb County Police Law Enforcement Explorers while in high school.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice administration and a master’s in business and public administration. He is a graduate of the FBI National Academy, Senior Management Institute for Police, Georgia Law Enforcement Command College and the FBI Law Enforcement Executive Development Program.

The City Council also approved the hiring of Mary Wallace Moore as Smyrna's new library director. Moore is the Reference and Adult Services Manager for the Huntsville-Madison County Public Library in Huntsville, Alabama, and was the sole finalist for the position.

Lets Hope he does something about drivers being responsible to pay attention to crosswalks, and people on bicycles. Smyrna is a DEADLY town if you are trying to be healthy or if you are one of the many people that cannot afford to pay the gas prices!!!!

There have been zero pedestrians or bicyclists killed who were obeying laws and using a crosswalk in Smyrna.
