Smyrna PD Charge Man With Child Molestation, Other Charges

William McIntyre allegedly molested a Smyrna teen at a hotel Feb. 10.

Smyrna police detectives charged William McIntyre of Waleska, Ga. with aggravated child molestation, enticing a child for indecent purposes and computer pornography after he allegedly molested a 14-year-old Smyrna resident.

McIntyre, age 20, met his victim at a local coffee shop. After the encounter the two exchanged text and Facebook messages, police said. On Feb. 10, 2012, McIntyre picked up the victim from his bus stop and took him to a Smyrna hotel where police allege the teen was molested.

Smyrna police detectives took over the teen’s Facebook account and cell phone when they became involved with the investigation. After communicating with McIntyre for three weeks under the guise of the victim, detectives arranged a meeting with McIntyre on March 2 at a local coffee shop where he was arrested.

Officer Michael Smith, Smyrna Police Department’s public information officer, noted that computer pornography does not mean that child pornography was found on McIntyre’s computer. Under Georgia law computer pornography constitutes a person committing the offense of obscene Internet contact with someone he or she knows to be or believes to be a child via a computer, online service or Internet service including a local bulletin board service, an Internet chat room, email or an online messaging service. The contact involves any matter containing explicit verbal description or narrative accounts of sexually explicit nudity, sexual conduct, sexual excitement or sadomasochistic abuse that is intended to arouse or satisfy the sexual desire of either the child or the person.
