Smyrna's 2012 New Dwelling Unit Permits Surpass Those for 2011

To date, Smyrna's Community Development Department has issued 123 new dwelling building permits compared to 120 for the previous year in its entirety.

Though slower than in , the Community Development Department reported positive building growth for the city for the month of July when compared to the previous year.

Director of Community Development Ken Suddreth said that his department continues to see a “positive trend of the numbers.” The “numbers” Suddreth refers to include new home building permits, commercial building permits, inspections and site visits.

“The positive trend of the numbers in my department continues it’s just not quite at the pace it’s been for the rest of the year,” he said . “We’re actually about 118 percent year-over-year for the month of July, but that is not unusual. Normally there’s a lot of activity in the spring and then there’s a lot of building in the summer. So the permits have been issued primarily in the first half of the year, building will occur in the middle of the year and then we see a little bit of pickup in the fall.”
