Smyrna Seeks New Chief of Police, Library Director and City Engineer
The city has three pairs of big shoes to fill.
The city of Smyrna is seeking to fill the positions of three high-level staffers. Chief of Police Stan Hook and Library Director Michael Seigler are retiring while the City Engineer Keith Williams is taking a position out of state.
Smyrna’s Director of Human Resources Kay Bolick said that Hook will have put in 23 years with the city at the time of retirement. Seigler will have served nearly 18. Williams will move on to become Director of Public Works in Sanibel, Fla.
Bolick said the city will get some help filling Hook’s position.
“We’re taking applications from whoever puts in,” she said. “It is open internally, externally. We’re not making any determination. The Georgia Chiefs Association is going to assist in that process of interviewing and testing. They’re going to hold a full assessment for the police chief position. They’re going to be the primary ones handling it until the very end.”
The deadline to apply to Smyrna’s next city engineer is Oct. 5. The position pays between $64,882 and $77,858. Those interested in applying for the Library Director position have until Oct. 12. The position pays between $71,864 and $86,236. The deadline to apply for Chief of Police is Oct. 24 and the salary depends on the applicant's qualifications.
