Good question, Brian. I didn't get a chance to call City Hall about issue sheets before 5, but I'll be looking into it Monday morning.

Security Exchange Bank in Marietta went bankrupt.
http://www.securityexchangebank.com/

Board members of the bank are Max Bacon (Mayor), Scott Cochran (City Attorney) and Larry Freeman (Smyrna Downtown Development Authority).

Bacon has no experience in banking. Several years it was revealed that $100K of HUD money sat in that bank for four years collecting interest. Bacon is on record stating that he had no knowledge of it.

Marietta bank shuttered The Associated Press 06/16/12 WASHINGTON —
Federal regulators have seized 3 banks, one each in Florida, Georgia and Tennessee, bringing to 31 the number of U.S. banks that have failed so far this year.
The Federal Deposit Insurance Corp. said Friday that it closed Putnam State Bank in Palatka, Fla., Security Exchange Bank in Marietta and The Farmers Bank of Lynchburg, in Lynchburg, Tenn.
The FDIC lined up other lenders to assume the deposits and assets of each of the banks.
Regulators estimate that the failure of the three banks will cost the insurance fund $100 million.
Fidelity Bank, based in Atlanta, agreed to assume Security Exchange Bank’s assets and essentially all of its deposits, the FDIC said. As of March 31, Security Exchange Bank had $147.9 million in deposits and $151 million in assets. Its two branches will reopen on Monday as Fidelity Bank locations.
The FDIC said it entered into a loss-share transaction with Fidelity Bank on $102.8 million of Security Exchange Bank’s assets. Putnam State Bank, which had three branches, had about $169.5 million in assets and $160 million in deposits as of March 31.

I'm sorry, What?
Do you mean to tell us that mayor, the city's attorney, and a member of the bond wielding DDA were board members of a bank that Federal Regulators have SEIZED?
And we are supposed to trust these people to run Smyrna?
REALLY? This is outrageous! Now I'm mad! We're talking millions of dollars here, this isn't Monopoly money!
I don't want to hear one word about what a great job they're doing and how one has nothing to do with the other. It's time to start taking long, hard looks at how business is being conducted by these very people in the name of Smyrna, GA. Outrageous!

Oscar G. this is just the tip of the iceberg. The least that could be said of Smyrna GA is that it's incestuous the most that could be said is that it's corrupt. I keep waiting for this house of cards to fall.

This bank opened in April 2000. Smyrna's downtown was financed through this bank 2001-2003. In 2012 the bank is siezed.
Larry Freeman (smyrna downtown development authority) is chairman of the bank.

Okay.
Well the question begs to be asked, what, if any, projects were funneled through this bank by the DDA, and the next question is, whom, if any, of these men, were involved with the bank at that time? And, were they holding their current city positions at that time as well?
Was there a conflict of interest? Or any sort of measure in appearance of impropriety?
This is what I'd like to know.

Freeman is chairman of SEB Bancorp Inc.Security Exchange Bank's holding company. SEB Bancorp owns the bank's outstanding stock and reduces its risk.

The question is did this bank open with the sole purpose of financing Smyrna's downtown revitalization and government buildings.

It looks like you have $102 million worth of outrage Oscar. That was what the SEB lost under the watch of the mayor, city attorney, and a member of the SDDA.
Ha! It's like having Larry, Darryl, and the other brother Darryl overseeing millions of dollars. Putting any money in the care of anyone associated with Smyrna Georgia is not a bright idea. It has the worst reputation for fiscal resopnsibility.

More on the failed Security Exchange Bank.

Dwight Brown the former head of the Cobb EMC who was indicted on 35 felony criminal counts was on the BOD.

Why was this zombie bank allowed to continue to operate?

The equity on loans was down 131%.
