TSPLOST Meeting set for Thursday

Cobb DOT's Faye DiMassimo will give a presentation on the Transportation Investment Act project list and Smyrna-Vinings residents will be asked for input.

As reported earlier Tuesday at Patch, the TSPLOST debate moves to East Cobb’s Walton High School tonight for a town-hall meeting hosted by Republican state Sen. Judson Hill.

Besides Hill, East Cobb politicians expected to attend the meeting on the proposed 10-year, 1-cent regional sales tax for transportation projects include state Reps. Matt Dollar and Sharon Cooper and county Commissioners JoAnn Birrell and Bob Ott. The meeting starts at 7 p.m.

And Smyrna’s Brawner Hall at Taylor-Brawner Park will be the site of Thursday’s open forum to discuss the various initiatives and projects within the proposed transportation project list.

Cobb County Department of Transportation Director Faye DiMassimo will give a presentation on the Transportation Investment Act project list. Residents will then be able to ask questions about the projects and provide input.

The forum, which will be hosted by Sen. Doug Stoner (D-Smyrna) and Representatives Stacey Evans (D-Smyrna) and David Wilkerson (D-Austell), will be from at 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at the park located at 3180 Atlanta Road.

"As a long time proponent of cutting edge transportation, I am excited to explore with our constituents the details of the Transportation Investment Act draft project list that has been initiated by the region,’’ Stoner said in a statement.

“Critical to the region's ability to attract businesses and jobs to our area is the reduction of gridlock and transportation planning. Too often we hear of companies choosing to locate in other southeastern states because of our lack of transportation planning.  Now, we have an opportunity to address this issue head on."
