UPDATE: Woman Seriously Injured in Motorcycle Accident Still Hospitalized

Megan Smith, 25, of Powder Springs, sustained a broken leg and lacerations to her shoulder in the accident.

Smyrna police say the woman seriously injured in a motorcycle accident on Windy Hill Road Wednesday is still recovering from her injuries at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. The accident shut down Windy Hill's westbound lanes for about an hour while police cleared the scene.

Megan Smith, 25, of Powder Springs was traveling westbound on her Suzuki sport bike on Windy Hill Road when she clipped the bumper of a Toyota Corolla turning into a parking lot just east of Belmont Circle.

“It appears she was ejected, but I can’t confirm that,” Officer Robert Harvey said at the scene. “I don’t have any evidence that she was. If she rode that bike down with all that she was pretty good—a pretty good rider. It was a violent rollover about 60 feet, probably 60 feet.”

Smith, who was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident, was transported by ambulance to the hospital. Friday, Officer Michael Smith, no relation to Megan Smith, offered an update on her condition.

“She’s still at Kennestone with a busted leg and deep lacerations to her shoulder,” said Smith. “She’s banged up, but to my knowledge she’s expected to make a full or near-full recovery.”

Harvey said Wednesday that charges are pending, but as of Friday morning the investigation is still ongoing. Smith said he couldn’t offer any information about charges until the investigation is complete.

My daughter, Megan Smith, 24, is still at Kennestone Hospital. She had surgery on June 7 to repair a tibial plateau fracture of her right leg, a fibial fracture, and a dislocated right ankle. The laceration under her left arm required stitches and there are bruises and abrasions. She has a long road to recovery, but we are thankful that she will recover. Our family is extremely grateful to the police, EMTs, and emergency room doctors and nurses who cared for Megan after her accident.
