Despite the Monday holiday, it’s a busy week in Smyrna-Vinings this week. Of course tonight is the Smyrna Mayor and City Council meeting. Check the full agenda here.
The Vinings Business Association will be holding its January 'After Hours' event tonight at South City Kitchen in the One Ivy Walk retail center. Come network from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. as food and limited after hours beverages will be available. There is no cost to members or guests and no RSVP is required.
Also, Cobb Commission Chairman Tim Lee has been confirmed as the featured speaker at the Feb. 7 First Tuesday Luncheon at Social Vinings. And the 3rd Annual VBA Business Expo is set for March 29 at the Marriott Courtyard Vinings. See here for more info on the VBA and its events.
On Wednesday, Ted Propes will give an "Economic Forecast for 2012" presentation as the scheduled featured speaker at the Rotary Club of Vinings, which will meet at noon at The Vinings Club, Overlook III, 2859 Paces Ferry Road.
Also that day, the Kiwanis Club of Smyrna will hold its weekly meeting at the Smyrna Community Center. This is a spirited group of men and women, dedicated to improving the quality of life in the Smyrna community. The meeting is from 11:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. and call 770-438-6961 for more info.
And Georgia House Speaker David Ralston will be the featured speaker at a private luncheon for local community leaders at Vinings Bank on Wednesday.
On Thursday, the Smyrna Business Association will conduct its January 'Alive After Five' networking at Blue Moon Pizza in Smyrna’s West Village. Admission is free to this gathering of local industry professionals. The event takes place from 5:30-7:30 and will feature food, drinks and door prizes. See here for more information.
Also Thursday evening, state Sen. Doug Stoner (D-Smyrna) will host a town hall meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Vinings Bank. Join Sen. Stoner at the bank, located at 4135 Atlanta Road in Smyrna, for a discussion of the issues being addressed by the Georgia General Assembly, and the impact of those issues on the local community.
On Friday, the Smyrna Optimist Club will meet at 7 a.m. at the American Legion Post 160. The Optimist Club of Smyrna is an affiliate of Optimist International and incorporated in the State of Georgia as a nonprofit service club. Hundreds of youth in Smyrna are helped by the Optimist Club's projects and programs.
Also Friday at 3:30 p.m., the Smyrna Public Library will be screening “Mr. Popper’s Penguins,” starring Jim Carrey. This PG movie runs about and hour and half and don’t forget to bring some movie snacks to enjoy.
And on Saturday, St. Benedict’s Episcopal Day School is hosting an Elementary School Open House at 2 p.m. This will afford parents and students an opportunity to visit the school in an informal setting, with time allotted to visit classrooms, meet faculty and staff, and tour the school. No RSVP is necessary.
And finally, the Vinings Historic Preservation Society will be is hosting their “Vegas In Vinings” event Saturday night at The Vinings Club. The fun-filled evening will feature casino games, a delicious cocktail buffet, silent auction, prizes and more.
A portion of the proceeds will go towards a crucial repair to the foundation of the historic Pace House, as well as being used for maintenance and preservation of the Pace House, Old Pavilion and Yarbrough House, all located in the center of Vinings Village. Expenses to maintain these buildings are approximately $125,000 annually and are paid with profits from fundraising events and private donations.
Ticket prices are $100 per person (advance ticket sales conclude Thursday night) or $125 at the door and include two drink tickets, two raffle tickets and $2,000 in Vegas “Money.”
