Russell Elementary School in Smyrna honored diversity, heritage and culture during its first ever International Day Celebration Thursday.

Students, parents and teachers walked in a parade in traditional clothing from different cultures around the world during school day, and participated in the "Taste of Russell" in the evening.

The school and its PTA community organized the event to educate children about their heritage, and to help them develop tolerance and appreciation from a young age for diversity not just in Smyrna, but around the world.
