Welcome back, Patch Blogger!

Win a $50 Gas Card from Patch

Enter our Gas Card Giveaway today!

With gas at $4 a gallon most everywhere, it’s getting tough to fill the tank.

Patch feels your pain and we want to help, even if it’s just a little bit. So we’re giving away a $50 gas card in the hopes that we can make life better for one lucky reader.

Entering this contest is easy. All you have to do is post a comment below this article to tell us about one thing you’re doing differently to save money on gas (or to save on other things so you can afford gas). There’s no need to write a lot. Just a sentence or two will do!

We’ll conduct a random drawing from among the comments entered by noon on April 16.

Good luck, road warriors!

I am going less places, and combining trips into one big loop (right turns only, if possible). We've started shopping at Aldi for things that are cheaper there, and I am getting all of my books from the library instead of buying them. I'm growing our vegetables, unless all the bugs get them, and hoping that I'll also have some to give to friends who are in need.

My wife and I carpool whenever we can. We also take MARTA to work and to occasionally run errands. We're lucky because we live close to a MARTA station and it's a very convenient transportation option for us. We will also bring our bikes with us and use them if we have a significant distance to travel from the MARTA stop. It's great living in ATL and having this much transportation flexibility - primarily if you do all of your errands and entertainment downtown.

Gas is stored underground before you pump it. Your gas tank is also underneath your vehicle, and out of the sun - so it will stay cool. What you heard is an urban myth and is not valid.

I don't drive on Sundays, no matter what.
I walk instead of driving whenever I can.
I make a list of all the errands that I have to run for the week and I combine trips to stores that are located nearby to make sure that I don't drive all over town.
I keep tires inflated properly.
I don't store junk in my car.
I drive economically, I don't speed.
I get gas at the cheapest gas station in the area where I work (gas stations OTP are much cheaper).
I use credit cards that give you cash back on the purchase of gas.

Two things: combining errands to cut down trips in the car, and driving differently. I have improved my mileage per gallon from 13 m.p.g to 18 or 19 by driving a bit more slowly on the local streets so I can more easily stop my car at a light, and then easing away from the light instead of stepping on the gas to make a quick start. Makes a difference!

Fortunate to be able to work from home often. We've been eating at home more and cutting back on the food bill by shopping at Aldi...great savings on the day to day stuff. Eating out means tossing something on the grill. Selling the stuff we don't use. Also, our neighbors check with each other before running errands, in case there is something we can pick up while out to avoid an un-necessary trip. Watching more TV movies as an evening at the movie theatre can get expensive. We are now thinking about everything we do and how we can make it more efficient and econimical.
