I wanted to pass along to you a heart-warming story about our wonderful community and a great example of for-profit and non-profit partnership. A few weeks ago, as you know, Corporal Gene Crawford, a motorcycle officer with Smyrna Police Department, was severely injured in a hit-and-run motor vehicle accident at South Cobb Drive and Ridge Road. He suffered critical injuries which required surgery and will prevent his returning to work for an extended period of time.
Once Corporal Crawford returned home from the hospital, the Smyrna Public Safety Foundation became aware of several home modifications that were needed in his home that would accommodate his limited physical condition. The Foundation reached out to the Home Depot Foundation to propose that the two foundations work together to make structural modifications to the Crawford residence to allow Gene to have improved access to his shower and other needs. The Home Depot Foundation quickly responded with a grant and connected us to the management of the Vinings Home Depot Store. Assistant Store Manager Shawn Groebner was appointed as the Project Leader and with other Team Depot volunteers, the work began at the Crawford home on Monday, July 9th. We anticipate it being completed the week of July 16th.
This should serve as an example of how the two foundations came together to support an injured Smyrna PD officer. Our thanks to Home Depot for being such a wonderful corporate citizen and to those who support the Smyrna Public Safety Foundation that exists to support our Smyrna public safety personnel.
