Uptown in Downtown Mableton: Candidate Forum in the Vinings Part of Mableton
As a younger person, I remember Cooper Lake Road was in Mableton, especially the part of it that was really close to Bankhead Highway. Now what used to be between Mableton and Oakdale Road is called Vinings.
Oh well, that's not really important, but I did hear at the candidates forum the other night they were trying to make it Smyrna. None of the candidates that showed up for the forum addressed that issue because they were all trying to steer voters into their camps.
It turned out to be another "keep the gloves on" type of forum and once again did not provide candidates the opportunity to challenge each other on points of contention.
Candidates showed up for the Chairman's, District Commission Four, School Board, State Court judge, Superior Court and DA's races and one candidate for the State House.
The crowd of about 45 folks did get a chance to be talked to and solicited for their votes in the upcoming election on July 31. Better yet they were encouraged to go vote early including Saturday July 21 at Election Headquarters on Whitlock Avenue.
Vinings Estates Clubhouse was a wonderful venue, but they didn't provide any snacks for the candidates or the attendees.

Well, regardless of what city they are in it must be good when you do not have to worry about education being an issue. Perhaps it is because of the excellent institution just up the road. Otherwise, the hotly contested School Board race in Dist.
3 may have added to the list. I believe the subdivision is in the district. Good event nonetheless and by the way, who needs snacks when most of us are just too fat?

Glad you came to south Smyrna for the forum. This area of Cobb County was annexed into the City Limits in the mid-1990s and has grown tremendously. Our neighborhood alone is comprised of 855 newly-built homes and nearly 2,500 residents, all paying Smyrna taxes and getting Smyrna services. We are part of the new Smyrna!
Smyrna is now 51,271 residents (ranked 15th largest municipality in Georgia) and only 5,308 less than Marietta (ranked 13th with 56,579).
