Welcome back, Patch Blogger!
As indicated early today, Smyrna-Vinings Patch hit the one-year mark on Thanksgiving Day. And we’re mighty thankful to have made it and of course, much appreciative to all who have followed along. Here’s just a small sampling (about 120 pictures) from the past year. It’s been a great 12 months and we’re looking forward to see what Smyrna-Vinings Patch year No. 2 will bring. Take a look at what’s happened so far, and don’t be shy about telling us what you’d like to see in the future!
Saturday’s weather for Smyrna’s 23rd Annual Fall Jonquil Festival was picture perfect with pleasant temperatures and plenty of sunshine. And the good news as that tomorrow’s forecast is calling for more of the same as the festival continues from noon to 5 p.m. on Sunday. Take a peek at some of the Saturday shots from the Smyrna-Vinings Patch viewfinder. And please, by all means, share your weekend outdoor pictures with us whether they’re from the Jonquil Fest or not. We want to see and share with others!
It was a beautiful Saturday in our Smyrna-Vinings Patch. From the polo fields in Vinings to Rev Coffee's Fall Fest to the Russell Elementary 50th birthday party celebration, there were good times to be had. Take a look at our Local Viewfinder shots and if you feel so inclined, please contribute your own weekend pics of fun. Many thanks to Linda Hornik for the great shots she provided of the Russell Elementary celebration.   You can see here all of Linda’s pictures from Saturday and we’ll have more on the big day at Russell later this Sunday afternoon.
It was a beautiful Saturday and the crowds were large for the annual Taste of Smyrna. Smyrna spokeswoman Jennifer Bennett said the overflowing crowds reached close to 25,000 people during the daylong event. Ted’s Montana Grill won for Best Appetizer for its crabs cakes, while J. Gumbos won for Best Decorated Booth. And Marlow’s Tavern won three awards for Best Entrée (shrimp & grits), Best Dessert (honey bourbon bread pudding) and Best Food Presentation (shrimp & grits).
Again, congratulations to the Campbell High School Class of 2011! Here are some photos submitted by CHS students and faculty.  Check out these smiling faces and proud 2011 graduates!
Our Local Viewfinder focuses on a few weekend events. First, the downtown area on Saturday featured the Smyrna Fresh Produce Market and a kid-friendly bike rodeo. Meanwhile on Cobb Parkway, RetroFitness was celebrating a good workout with a DJ and giveaways. Take a look, and then maybe share with us what you’re weekend looked like.
Editor's Note: Due to unforeseen technical issues, complete coverage from Tuesday night's public meeting concerning the Atlanta Road median and streetscape cannot be provided at this time. The concept plan was presented and City Councilman Wade Lnenicka, City Engineer Keith Williams and Georgia State Senator Doug Stoner were all on hand to answer questions. An estimated 75 residents turned out at Brawner Hall for the meeting and several had questions ranging from why the median was being built period to what could be done to alter its current concept. Williams assured all that the concept …
It was a beautiful, albeit rather warm, day at Rev Coffee's festival on Saturday. Were you there? Won't you share your pictures if you were?

The Indian American Cultural Association (IACA) on Sunday celebrated the Indian festival of Holi. It was open to the public and as is tradition at the festival of colors, the event featured lots of music, dance, food and play. Despite overcast weather conditions, around 100 people reveled at the IACA located on Cooper Lake Road. Included was a large gathering of children of all ages, who enjoyed themselves by sprinkling dry and wet colors on each other. It is believed that the colors represent energy, life and joy.
Our Local Viewfinder this week focuses on Thursday’s St. Patrick’s Day happenings around Smyrna-Vinings. Restaurants and bars were packed with green-adorned revelers, and on a picture perfect day for celebrating, smiles were a bound at the St. Paddy’s festival in the Market Village. “This is a great event and the merchants who put it always do an outstanding job,’’ said Smyrna Mayor Max Bacon, who helped dye the central fountain an appropriate shade of Kelly green. “They’ve done a wonderful job of blending the families with the singles.’’ And don’t forget, we want to blend our photographs …
