Patch's Weekend & Community Spotlight is a series of videos featuring great events and community happenings around Cobb, Douglas and Paulding counties.Smyrna and Cobb County's faith community will join hands to form a "Circle of Prayer" Friday evening at Emory-Adventist Hospital in Smyrna. The event to rededicate the hospital will take place at 6 p.m. Friday, and members of more than 300 churches in Cobb County have been invited to participate. Last year, more than 250 worshippers held hands in a chain that wrapped around Emory-Adventist, Cobb County’s only faith-based hospital.
This week's Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Weekend & Community Spotlight features the Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County's Kinna Chamber Concert series. Pianist Joe Chapman will perform on March 9, followed by 9 String Theory on April 13 at The Cultural Arts Center in Douglasville. Performances begin at 7 p.m. and are followed by a reception in honor of the musicians. This week's Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Weekend & Community Spotlight features the 4th Annual Marietta Mardi Gras 5K Run on the Marietta Square. The event benefits the Junior League of Cobb-Marietta and it's community partners. The 5K run will begin Saturday at 8 a.m., with the 1K beginning at 8:45 a.m. and the Tot-Trot at 9 a.m. For the third year, the Junior League is teaming up with Shoes for the Cure for a shoe drive. This week's Cobb, Douglas and Paulding Weekend & Community Spotlight features the Christopher Heitzman Benefit 5K Run. The event takes place Saturday morning at Lassiter High School, with proceeds to help pay for medical expenses for the injured graduate. Heitzman, who graduated from Lassiter last spring, was seriously injured in a car accident last July on Trickum Road that killed his classmate, Ryan Aschenbach, and injured another recent Lassiter graduate Tylor Seaman. Heitzman sustained a head injury and several broken bones, and will need more surgeries. The fundraiser has collected just …

This year’s theme, “It’s kind of a big deal,” heralds the Nov. 22 event that will hopefully attract 10,000 runners, building on last year’s 9,453 attendees.
