DESCRIPTION:In an effort to highlight the tremendous success of the Commu
 nity Development Block Grant Program in Cobb County\, the program's staf
 f and the City of Smyrna will host a CDBG Day. &nbsp\;This celebration w
 ill also highlight the City of Smyrna as the newest CDBG entitlement com
 munity in Cobb. &nbsp\;The local CDBG Program Office administers a varie
 ty of federal grant programs through the U.S. Department of Housing and 
 Urban Development.\nSince it began in Cobb in 1982\, the CDBG Program ha
 s brought more than $85 million to the county and its municipalities to 
 fund public facilities and public services that improve the social\, eco
 nomic and physical environment of low and moderate income persons\, as w
 ell as special needs individuals residing in Cobb County. Non-profit org
 anizations receiving CDBG funds provide a wide variety of services\, suc
 h as: after-school programs\, day care\, domestic violence and family cr
 isis intervention\, housing opportunities\, shelter for the homeless and
  disabled\, literacy programs\, employment training\, senior services\, 
 transportation and health care services.
