Abrakadoodle: Children’s art company recognized for Earth-friendly practices and programs

Reston , VA , April 20, 2009 –In 2009 Abrakadoodle Remarkable Art Education was recognized with the “Go Green” Award from S&S® Worldwide as part of a campaign to recognize educational organizations that are taking leadership positions in raising awareness for environmental conservation. Abrakadoodle has been “green” focused since its inception in 2002 by teaching children green practices while also taking responsibility as a green company. Abrakadoodle established recycling alliances early on with fellow franchise companies Fast Frames and Signs by Tomorrow. More recently Sign-A-Rama joined the Abrakadoodle’s Green Franchise Initiative by recycling unused or discarded sign materials that are used in Abrakadoodle programs to build sculptures, create fine art or provide unique painting canvases! Abrakadoodle has also introduced Eco-Papers (100-percent recycled paper frames with eco friendly dyes) in its art programs for children.

Two years ago, Abrakadoodle developed its first environmentally-focused art program for children: Green Kids in a Colorful World TM,which teaches children about how they can help make the planet healthier while creating 2-D and 3-D masterpieces using recycled materials including plastic bottles, tubes, and packaging materials. Children learn how to make French Santon statues inspired by the peasants of Provence. They sculpt in the style of Tiffany, paint CD’s with geometric designs like Piet Mondrian and more.

More than a year ago, Abrakadoodle enlisted the help of the Cool Globes Public Art Project ( http://www.coolglobes.com/ ) that is touring the world to raise awareness about things we all can do to maintain a healthy planet. Abrakadoodle’s goal was to increase children’s awareness of the project through an innovative in-school project entitled Cool Globes for Cool Kids Workshop. Abrakadoodle’s program has reached thousands of children through in-school field trips and special workshops that include an interactive presentation that raises awareness regarding what individual actions we all can do to protect Earth. This is followed by an art project in which students use their imaginations to create their own individual globes, applying what they have learned. Children increase their knowledge about best practices for helping the environment; develop a “green” vocabulary, as well as express their individual creativity about being green.
