Just A Double Oven

The story of redemption is as ubiquitous and varied as a  sunrise.  The hope it inspires is the air that keeps us moving forward towards something.  The hope is that we all are moving towards a better life for ourselves and others.  Leveling the field so that those who have fallen have the opportunity to rise is our responsibility. While watching one of my favorite shows, I learned of ...Michael Anthony Green.......who was incarcerated for 27 years for rape in Texas.  The evidence that would have freed him was never tested until a post conviction review board took up his case.  Its hardly news because we hear of such cases all the time.  But what stood out for me is the tenacity and hope displayed by Mrs. Green who raised their child and two others from a previous relationship.  When Green's wife was asked what she wanted after waiting for him for 27 years, she said she only wanted a double oven because she liked to cook. She had everything that truly mattered Family, Friends, Faith, Love.    The most important facts of life are universal  AND we all  like to EAT!!

While attending the Board of Corrections meeting this month, I was impressed when Commissioner Owens used the phase "coordinating benefits" referring to the states' goal of providing services before and after release from penal institutions.  The plethora of services mentioned include substance abuse counseling, mental health services, housing, employment and other needs that will help felons and those wrongly convicted began to contribute to society.  Mrs. Green can tell us about how she coordinated benefits and how she stayed positive through it all.
