A Question for Smyrna Lifers

The new Local Editor of Smyrna-Vinings Patch wants your help to get a better feel for what Smyrna and Vinings have been and what they are now.

Dear Smyrna,

The other day, I was talking to a lady who had spent her entire life in Smyrna. She told me many tales of the old Smyrna and Cobb County, like how Interstate 75 used to be four lanes across and how going to Rich's in downtown Atlanta to ride the pig was a momentous occasion.

That got me thinking, and I wanted to ask any long-time or lifetime Smyrna and Vinings residents who frequent Smyrna-Vinings Patch what their memories are of "the good old days."

Let's take a collective trip down memory lane and share our favorite stories of Smyrna and Vinings as they used to be and how it changed into the Smyrna and Vinings we know now. What's something that changed that you wish hadn't? What's something that hasn't changed that you wish would?

I'm excited to read all of your responses, and I hope I will get a feel for the character of the cities as a result. Although my mom has worked in Smyrna for most of my life and I've spent a lot of time there, I had never immersed myself in the area's culture. I think now is as good a time as any to start doing that!

Thanks in advance for your comments!

-Justin
