Book on Smyrna's History On Sale Today

The book uses vintage photographs to help tell the story of the city's past.

Smyrna lifers and history buffs can get their hands on a book written about the Jonquil City's rich past today.

"Images of America: Smyrna," uses stunning photographs and well-researched writing to tell the story of Smyrna, which began as a religious camp site in the early 19th century, was devastated by the Civil War, and eventually became an economic hub when Bell Aircraft built a bomber plant in the area during World War II. The plant survives today under the stewardship of Lockheed-Martin, and Smyrna is a bustling community that is soon to play host to a Major League Baseball stadium.

The book was written and compiled by locals Harold Lee Smith, former mayor and co-founder of the Smyrna Historical and Genealogical Society, Inc. and the Smyrna History Museum and Kara M. Hunter-Oden, curator of the Smyrna History Museum and vice president of the Smyrna Historical and Genealogical Society.

The book is now available for purchase at the Smyrna History Museum for $21.99.
