Run and Eat Turkey Day Style

After you sweat it out at Thursday's Gobble Jog, head to one of these Smyrna-Vinings restaurants that are offering Thanksgiving dinners.

serves up Thanksgiving dinner: deep-fried Creole turkey breast, Dr Pepper spiral glazed ham, squash casserole with cracker topping, pimento deviled eggs, Southern-style green beans and herbed bread stuffing, sweet potato soufflé, cranberry orange relish and a pumpkin and mascarpone cheese roll for dessert. Doors open at 4 p.m. Thanksgiving day. Dinner for adults is $20, $15 for young adults and $8 for children. Reservations are recommended: 770-435-1887.

’s “Thanksgiving in the Kitchen” is a Southern-style three-course, prix fixe dinner, $39.95 for adults, $19.98 for kids under 12. Guests chose from a list of appetizers, entrees and desserts including fried green tomatoes, house made pimento cheese, she-crab soup, roasted turkey breast, seafood jambalaya, buttermilk fried chicken, pumpkin pie or pecan pie. Thursday, Nov. 24 from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

serves a three-course Atlanta Thanksgiving Dinner from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dinner is $29.95 for adults and $12.95 for children 12 and under. The first course includes a mixed green salad with balsamic vinaigrette with dried cranberries and five spice buttermilk squash soup. For the second course diners chose either roasted turkey breast and gravy, brown sugar pineapple glazed ham, prime rib with rosemary jus or dill hollandaise salmon.

Entrees are paired with family-style side items like whipped sweet potatoes, cranberry stuffing, bacon black-eyed peas, succotash, braised collards, green beans or mashed Yukon gold potatoes. For dessert diners enjoy bourbon chocolate pecan pie, apple cobbler and pumpkin cheesecake. Reservations can be made online or by phone by calling 770-438-2282.

serves up a four-course Thanksgiving meal featuring traditional and Italian-style Thanksgiving dishes like traditional roast turkey breast with giblet gravy and focaccia sausage stuffing. Dinner is served from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and is $34.95 for adults and $16.95 for children ages five through 12.

serves up a traditional Thanksgiving dinner, with turkey, ham, green bean casserole, sweet potato soufflé, pumpkin cheesecake and pecan pie.  Dinner is $29 for adults and $10 for children 10 and under.

And before you chow down, you might want to consider a little exercise as registration is now open for the Gobble Jog to be held Thanksgiving Day.

The Gobble Jog raises the funds that enable to provide food, shelter, clothing and other services for individuals and families needing assistance or who are in crisis.  

The 2011 event is expected to be the largest to date and will draw thousands who will run or walk in the 10K, 5K, 1K and Tot Trot races that originate and finish at the Marietta Square. The Gobble Jog is certified as a qualifier for seeding in the Peachtree Road Race and the US 10K Classic.

In 2010, more than 8,300 people from almost 50 states participated in the MUST Ministries Marietta Daily Journal Gobble Jog and helped raise $285,000 for the nonprofit agency. MUST Ministries served more than 32,000 distinct individuals (almost half of whom were children), provided more than 46,000 bed nights of rest, served approximately 78,000 meals and gave away a ton of food every day. 

Over the last nine years the Gobble Jog has raised a cumulative total of more than one million dollars for MUST Ministries.
