Help Others Tonight by Dining Out

A pair of local restaurants are donating a portion of their proceeds to worthy causes Tuesday evening.

There’s good reason to dine out tonight and it’s not just because mama wants to get out of the kitchen.

At in Smyrna’s Market Village, 10-percent of purchases made between 5 and 7 p.m. will go to support Autism Speaks.

A startling study report released Monday indicated that one in 38 children has autism, which is much higher than the Center for Disease Control’s estimate of one in 110 kids. The new study was conducted in South Korea and concluded that many school kids have “mild, undiagnosed autism.’’

Further studies, and such are underway in India, South Africa, Mexico, and Taiwan, will have to confirm the current findings. Still, it led one researcher, Bennett L. Leventhal, MD, of the NYU Child Study Center, to comment, “If researchers went into the grade schools in their communities and looked there, we think they would come up with numbers similar to those we are reporting. This means there are uncounted children who are not in the services system."

Also tonight, Local Three Kitchen and Bar is hosting the Atlanta Community Food Bank’s “Super Club’’ dining event from 5:30 to 10 p.m. The popular restaurant owned in part by Todd Mussman and Ryan Turner, will donate 20-percent of the evening’s proceeds to the Food Bank’s “Atlanta’s Table,’’ which provides approximately 40,000 pounds of prepared food for Atlanta’s hungry each month.
