House Hunt Time: Smyrna Homes 300k and Less

Our weekly Smyrna-Vinings Patch feature focuses on area homes worth looking at — or even looking through.

While mortgage rates still remain very low by historical standards, the average rate on a 30-year mortgage did climb above 5 percent this week.

That’s the first time that’s happened since April, and higher rates could hurt an already sputtering housing market. So some potential buyers continue to lay low, expecting home prices to fall even further.

Still, others are looking to buy as according to statistics released Thursday by the National Association of Realtors (NAR), national home sales rose significantly in the final three months of 2010. Sales rose 15.4-percent in the final quarter of last year to an annual rate of 4.8 million units compared with 4.16 million a quarter earlier.

Nationally, single-family home prices held up better than those of condos in 2010 according to the NAR. With that in mind, here are five Smyrna single-family homes, all priced at $300,000 or less, currently on the market.
