Just Another Manic Monday

If you don't have plans tonight, don't worry because Smyrna-Vinings Patch has plenty of suggestions for you.

It’s Monday night, what are you going to do? Well, if you haven’t decided, there’s plenty of options.

The Vinings Village Civic Club, which recently donated a lovely antique, standing full length mirror to the Pace House, is conducting its first fall meeting at . All residents are invited to the 6:30 p.m. gathering.

Not far away at , The Smyrna Academy of Excellence will hold another informational meeting tonight from 6-7 p.m. Come listen and ask questions about this new Smyrna charter school that is set to open in July 2013.

If exercise is in your thing, why not pedal on down the Silver Comet Trail on your bike? Every Monday night, our friendly neighborhood shop leads a group ride departing the shop at 6 p.m. for a jaunty 25-mile trek through Smyrna, Mableton, and Austell.

“There are a few sprint points, two are KOM climbs, and there is an uphill sprint close to the end of the ride,” according to the shop’s website. No need to RSVP, just show up at the shop, ready to pedal hard, socialize, and have a blast. The bike enthusiasts at the store say “It's a lot of fun, and pretty challenging.”

A bicycle with a motor? Smyrna Bicycles is pumped about the brand new “pedalec” hybrid bike in stock called the Giant Twist. It requires pedaling before a 250-watt front hub motor kicks in, but if your goal is to bike your commute to work (with just a bit of assistance) then this amazing vehicle could be the answer.

For a different type of sporting activity, hosts its In-House Poker League every Monday evening beginning at 7:30. It’s free to enter and nightly and quarterly prizes are awarded.

And not too far from there is video trivia with DJ Tom Russo at beginning at 7:30 p.m. And with not one, but two Monday night NFL games on the tube, according to the Twisted Taco facebook page, “Woohoo!’’

Are these the apartments that were once called "Garrison Plantation"?
Lissa K. June 15, 2013 at 09:32 pm
This is Garrison Plantation - Garrison Lakes - Lakefront Vista. I lived there when it was familyRead More owned. It went from sister to brother then sold. Changed name from Garrison Plantation (because it wasn't PC) (but no one thought about what a garrison was) to Garrison Lakes (there's only one lake) to Lakefront Vista (under new ownership.) It's a dump now. The layout and size of the apts. are great. Even the location is great. Still know some people there. But it went downhill.

I'd rather answer the question "How do you feel about Roswell Street Baptist Church?" MyRead More answer: can't stand it. This incident is just another in its long and bigoted history. During the anti gay lifestyle debacle it gave out copies of the 10 Commandments. That anti gay resolution drafted by Gordon Wysong and enacted by the Cobb Co. Commissioners cost the county an Olympic venue. Whenever I hear about that church I think of the OM who called the church's prominent members The Marietta Mafia!

Its sad, that young people who are gay and often struggle to accept themselves as they are, faceRead More such fury and rejection by a church that preaches love, compassion and forgiveness for most but not all. No wonder many young people, the vast majority of whom are or will be heterosexual find the church increasingly irrelevant in their lives with attitudes like this.
