Smyrna-Vinings Family Best Bets through the Weekend.

From jambalaya to idols to race cars, welcome the first weekend of March with these family best bets.

When/Where: Thursday at 6 p.m. in the Parish Hall, .
Why Go: Celebrate in costume at this Mardi Gras party open to the community. Fill up on Jambalaya, Muffaletta, Red Beans and Rice, Shrimp Etouffee and King Cakes - and enjoy a table decorating contest, costume parade and kids activity station.  
Pricing: Tickets are $20 per person or $150 for a table of eight and $25 per person at the door. Children under 12 are FREE.  Space is limited so it is best to purchase tickets in advance. Proceeds will go to help with the costs of St. Benedict's Homeless Requiem for Cobb County to be held in November.

  • CAMPBELL IDOL

When/Where: Friday at 7 p.m. in the Auditorium.
Why Go: The proceeds from this event benefit the Campbell High School Drama department - fun for the whole family but especially fun for your tweens and teens as they watch their peers perform.
Pricing: $7 at the door.

When/Where: Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. - 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 - 5 p.m. at the Jim Miller Park
Why Go: Support the Cobb County Public Library System and find books, books on tape, compact discs, magazines and comic books for the whole family.
Pricing: Sale items 10 cents to $1.  

  • HOME DEPOT KIDS WORKSHOP - BUILD A RACE CAR

When/Where: Saturday from 9 a.m. - noon at the . 
Why Go: Join your children as they learn do-it-yourself skills and tool safety while building a race car - then find the items you need for your latest do-it-yourself project.
Pricing: Free.

When/Where: Through March 20 at Pemberton Place next to the World of Coca-Cola in Atlanta.
Why Go: A little farther afield but worth the trip, this unique two hour and twenty minute “in-the-round” show, combining live theatre with special effects, is not recommended for children under five years old - but it is highly recommended for everyone else. Don’t miss it before it closes in less than three weeks.
Pricing: $30 - $125.
