Baby Found in Roach-Infested, Dog Feces-Ridden Austell Home

Cobb Police arrested two Austell parents earlier this week after police found their Austell residence on the 3200 block of Westview Street, where their 4-month-old also lived, was infested with roaches and the floor was covered in dog feces.

According to an arrest warrant obtained by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, molded food was left out in the kitchen and police said roaches were crawling on the infant seat, which was below exposed electrical cords.

Divers Recover Body of Drowning Victim on Lake Lanier

A family outing on Lake Lanier turns tragic Thursday afternoon after a 44-year-old man drowns.

Rodrigo Bernal Trejo was pronounced dead at  said Capt. Jason Shivers with the , according to Deputy Coroner Nickie Stockel.

Shivers said units were dispatched at 3:08 p.m. to Lake Lanier for a "missing person, presumed drowning victim." 

4 People Injured in Thornton Road Crash Following Police Chase

Four people were injured and sent to the hospital after a police chase ended in a serious wreck at the intersection of Thornton and Maxham Roads in Austell last night.

 Sheriff Phil Miller said according to a report he has seen, the victims are expected to survive.

Miller said his deputies only assisted with traffic control and that Austell Police were chasing the Chevy Aveo when the car broadsided a Chevy Avalanche. The Avalanche ended up on its roof.

The man being chased had two small children in the car, Austell Mayor Joe Jerkins told Patch.

Ethics Board Member Resigns

One member of  Board of Ethics said she has resigned effective immediately after being "blindsided" at a .

Eileen Alberstadt said she sent the a letter this morning to members of the city council. City Manager Steve Kennedy confirmed that Alberstadt had sent an email regarding her resignation to the city clerk.

Mathews said it was unfortunate that Alberstadt resigned.
