Smyrna cats need rescuing; treat truck for dogs coming

Cindy Ganues, an animal care specialist with , is appealing a reported 40-hour suspension for removing euthanasia-bound cats from the county shelter during her days off.

Her appeal, scheduled to be heard by the Civil Service Board on Dec. 19, was postponed until Jan. 17. Cobb County Animal Control then postponed that hearing and no new date has been set.

The five-member Civil Service Board will hear Ganues’ case eventually  at the at 100 Cherokee St. off Marietta Square.

Late last week, the executive director for Animal Savers Rescue posted an announcement that 29 cats were in a terrible housing situation in Smyrna.

“We must get them out by January 27, 2012 or they will be put down,’’ wrote Margarita Robertson. ”We are seeking a house, warehouse, commercial space, or anything of that kind. We will definitely pay rent. They must go as a group since we have to provide medical treatment as a group. ASR will cover all care and costs involved.”

Tails will be wagging in Smyrna Sunday afternoon when the Best Friends Pet Care Treat Truck for Dogs comes to town giving away free ice cream and cookies.

The colorful, doggy-logo’d truck will be visiting dog parks with treats and fun for dogs and the people who love them. Best Friends, which provides boarding, daycamp and grooming, created the truck to give the community a taste of the fun and caring its staff provides to pet guests every day at its pet care center at 1087 Johnson Ferry Road in Marietta.

The truck will be in the Jonquil City’s two dog parks on Sunday afternoon. From 1:30 – 3 p.m., the truck will be at Lake Court Dog Park located at 3500 Lake Dr. Then from 3:15 – 5 p.m., it will be parked at Burger Park, located at 680 Glendale Place.
