Smyrna Public Library Steps Into the Future with eBooks

now offers eBooks. The collection currently has 327 titles including children’s books, adult best sellers and adult classics.

Library Director Michael Seigler announced the launch of Smyrna’s eBooks program at a . Friends of the Smyrna Library funded the project.

“They paid for it all,” he said. “Not one cent of taxpayer money went into this initial set up. The Friends are one of the greatest assets the library’s got.”

The eBooks can be checked out on desktops, laptops, Android-based phones and tablets, iPhones, iPads, iPod Touch and Kindle Fire eReaders. Earlier versions of Kindle e-readers are not compatible because they cannot download the reader app.

Those interested in checking out an eBook must have a Smyrna Public Library card. Smyrna residents must show an ID card to prove residence in the city. Non-residents must pay a $40 annual fee to obtain a library card.

Next patrons must download the Blio application to their electronic device and set up a free account. 

The library’s eBook collection can be accessed through the Access360 website. Of the 327 titles in the collection, Seigler said 25 percent of those are children’s books. The remaining books are adult best sellers and classics like Lee Child’s “61 Hours,” George R.R. Martin’s “Windhaven,” and Dean Koontz “77 Shadows Street.”

Patrons can checkout up to five books for two weeks. At the end of the 14-day period the book will disappear from the eReader.
