Step Out for Fun in Smyrna-Vinings

There's plenty of forthcoming opportunities to engage with your nearby neighbors...and for good causes, as well.

It may be too late to run in the Vinings Downhill 5K (all registration spots are filled), but you can still come out this Saturday, Sept. 10, at 8 a.m. to cheer the runners in Atlanta’s fastest Peachtree Qualifier. Proceeds from the race benefit Calvary Children’s Home, a home for children who have lost their parents; Good Samaritan Health Center, a non-profit that provides medical services to Atlanta’s men, women and children without health insurance; and the Vinings Rotary Club.

Later that evening, honor Smyrna’s finest at the Smyrna Public Safety Foundation Auction for Heroes Gala. Enjoy and Kingsized while you bid for items like trips to Italy, New York, Paris and San Francisco, autographed footballs and a 40-inch flat screen television. There are 175 auction items so there’s bound to be something for everyone.

The Gala kicks off at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10 at in Taylor Brawner Park in Smyrna. Proceeds from the Gala benefit the Smyrna Public Safety Foundation, a 501c 3 charity that’s primary intent is to promote and support the Smyrna Fire and Police Department. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased here.

Check out Taste of Smyrna-Festival of Delectable the following week on Saturday, Sept. 17. Stroll around Village Green as you sample small bites ranging in price from 50 cents to $4 from some of Smyrna’s finest restaurants. Scott Thompson will perform throughout the event at the Veteran’s Memorial. Francisco Vidal Band performs at 7 p.m. on the main stage.

City officials have invited prospective businesses to tour Market Village during the festival to encourage them to set up shop in Smyrna. For more information on Taste of Smyrna, call Bill Watson at 770-423-1330 or email Matt Eyrich at matteyrich@jrmmanagement.com.

Vinings Jubilee turned 25 this year and is throwing a party Saturday, Oct. 1 to celebrate. Enjoy a performance by the cover band Yacht Rock Schooner as they perform hits from artists like Kenny Loggins, The Gibb Brothers and Michael McDonald. Some of Vinings restaurants will provide food at outdoor stands. Beer and wine is available for purchase. Proceeds from the evenings events benefit Vinings Community Conservation Alliance, a 501(c)(3) non-profit formed to create and fund new plans for the Vinings community.
