Thousands of Students Attend the Black College Expo

Students flock to Cobb Galleria Saturday to take advantage of college resources presented.

Saturday at the , more than three-dozen students were awarded more than $250,000 in scholarship awards to a variety of regional and area colleges.

The halls of the were lined with students, parents, grandparents and educators all seeking the wealth of information presented from the 16 participating colleges in this year’s event.

“My daughter is only a (high school) sophomore, but I tell her it’s important to start looking early for scholarship money,” said Lita Ellis. “This by far exceeded my expectation; we will be back next year.”

Additionally, attendees benefited from a number of workshops and seminars designed to offer real world advice for expectations of college and beyond.

“The best part was the workshops; I learned so much and feel better prepared now for my school of choice,’’ said high school senior Aaron David.

The Expo also included performances by regional step teams and R & B crooner Francis, while “The Swagger Crew’’ closed out the event leaving students excited for the next chapters in their lives – the start of their college years.
